New Parliament Building of India: A Glimpse into the Future of Democracy

The new complex, a part of the Central Vista Redevelopment Project, was proposed due to stability concerns with the existing structure

Foundation stone was laid by PM Narendra Modi in Dec 2020. The project faced legal challenges but got cleared in Jan 2021

Designed by architect Bimal Patel, the complex has a hexagonal shape and is designed to last for more than 150 years​

The Lok Sabha chamber has 888 seats and the Rajya Sabha chamber has 384 seats. The building also includes offices for ministers and committee room

The new building houses a Sengol, a Chola dynasty-era scepter symbolizing authority, presented by Lord Mountbatten to the first PM Jawaharlal Nehru

On 28th May 2023, PM Narendra Modi officially inaugurated the new parliament building, marking a historic moment in India's democratic journey
